Volunteer Opportunities in the Crisis Program

  • Food Pantry Worker: Work on-site to help stock and organize the food pantry and package food orders for clients.
  • Food Drive Coordinator: Hold food drives in your congregation, workplace, school or neighborhood.
  • Crisis Interviewer: Assess the needs of clients to determine appropriate emergency food assistance, prescription assistance, and to make referrals to other agencies.
  • Community Garden Worker:  Put your green thumb to good use!  Our Community Garden, started Fall 2011, needs your help to tend, plant, and harvest our organic garden!  All yields go directly to our Food Pantry to help feed our community!

Volunteer Opportunities in the Open Door Clinic

  • Health Care Professional: Licensed physicians, nurses, pharmacists, lab techs and health educators provide chronic and acute care.
  • Front Desk Greeter: Greet and sign in patients, field questions, and direct patients’ needs to the appropriate staff.
  • Eligibility Screener: Determine whether patients are eligible for clinic services through one-on-one confidential interviews.
  • Pharmacy Assistant: Work with licensed volunteer pharmacists to assist the pharmacist in dispensing medications to patients; locate, count, and label medication for the pharmacist to check; assist with clean up, and other tasks determined by the pharmacists.
  • Medical Interpreter: Those fluent in Spanish and with advanced knowledge of medical terminology are needed to interpret in the Open Door Clinic.
  • Eligibility Interpreter: Use your advanced Spanish skills to help with interviewing clients and fielding questions for Spanish-speaking clients.

Volunteer Opportunities at the Helen Wright Center for Women

  • Meal Provider Team: Prepare and serve hot meals dinner nightly and breakfast and lunch on the weekends for 36 shelter guests.
  • Client Services Worker: Manage front desk operations and interact with shelter guests informally (talking with residents, playing cards, etc.)
