COME CHECK OUT THE COOPS – AND BENEFIT PEOPLE IN NEED!
Children with chicken

On Saturday, May 16, 2009,Urban Ministries will again be the beneficiary of a very fun and feathery project – the “Henside the Beltline Tour d’Coop.” This is the fourth year of the tour and promises to be bigger than ever! Raleigh’s chicken owners invite you into their backyards for a first-hand look at keeping chickens in an urban environment.Discover the variety of breeds, learn about raising chickens, and see how families integrate chickens into their gardening practices. Various chicken coop sites are located throughout the city (Five Points, Oakwood, and other neighborhoods),and it is great fun for all ages! Previous years’ Tour d’Coops have been huge successes, with hundreds of visitors enjoying the event and helping our organization. The event is held rain or shine.

Admission is non-perishable food or cash donations – 100% benefiting Urban Ministries. There will be five collection sites around Raleigh, and maps of the coops will be available at each of the sites.
  • Steven B. Andreaus, DDS, PA (Dental office at 1637 Glenwood Avenue, across from the Rialto Theater)

  • Ornamentea (509 N. West Street, one block south of Peace Street)
  • Whole Foods Market (3540 Wade Avenue, in the Ridgewood Shopping Center)

BIBLE APPLICATION CLASS BRINGS FOUR TONS OF FOOD TO THE PANTRY!
Bible Application Class food drive

The Bible Application Class (BAC), under the leadership of Cheryl Hall, recently brought in four tons of non-perishable items to the Urban Ministries’ Food Pantry. For the past four years, BAC has sponsored its month-long “Manna Project” in the spring, providing us with items for our clients in need of food assistance. The BAC represents 58 congregations that come together for a weekly Bible study. BAC has also conducted other drives for our agency, including winter boots for needy families. Thank you, BAC!

Urban Ministries operates the second largest food pantry in Wake County. We are dependent on congregations, service groups, Scout troops, and businesses throughout Wake County for direct donations to our Food Pantry.

Summer is the pantry's time of greatest need, due to children home from school. Please contact Laura Ridgeway, Outreach Coordinator, to learn how your organization can conduct a Food Drive for Urban Ministries: 256-2168 or Lridgeway@urbanmin.org

DONATE YOUR USED CPAP EQUIPMENT TO LOW INCOME PATIENTS
Urban Ministries of Wake County’s OPEN DOOR CLINIC is currently collecting used CPAP equipment and nebulizers for patients with obstructive sleep apnea and asthma. Prior to last year, we recognized that numerous patients had significant problems with those issues, but we were unable to obtain CPAP equipment for them. Thanks to Active Healthcare, a local equipment company that provides refurbished equipment to our patients, and our colleagues at WakeMed’s sleep laboratory who do the necessary testing, diagnosis, and treatment protocols, we are now having great success treating these illnesses. For what seemed like an untreatable disease to our patients, we are truly changing lives.

Please deliver any used CPAP and nebulizers in good condition to Urban Ministries, 1390 Capital Boulevard, Raleigh or call: (919) 256-2168. You will be providing equipment that will significantly improve our neighbors’ lives. The Open Door Clinic treats uninsured, indigent adult residents of Wake County.

“It is one of the beautiful compensations of life, that no man can sincerely help another without helping himself.”
