OPEN DOOR CLINIC STAFF AND PATIENTS FEATURED ON WRAL

Urban Ministries' Open Door Clinic (ODC) Medical Director Dr. Gary Greenberg, and PA Angela Inniger, as well as ODC patients, were recently shown on WRAL television news. The story focuses on health care and the growing number (now 21%) of uninsured North Carolina residents.

As with all our programs, demand for our Clinic services is very high. We currently have a waiting list thousands strong- all new patients waiting for appointments.

MEET OUR NEW DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR, MARY REED
Mary Reed

Mary Reed is the former Senior Director of Community Events and Development for the American Diabetes Association in the Greater New York Area. She has many years experience in development, special events, public relations and marketing. She and her husband, John, have relocated to Apex and love calling North Carolina home.

Her past experience will help Urban Ministries support its core programs and provide basic needs to people in our community. We are very excited to have Mary on the Urban Ministries team!


CROP WALK 2009 RECRUITMENT RALLY AUGUST 31

Don't miss the Crop Walk Recruitment Rally on Monday, August 31 at the Unitarian Universalist Church – 3313 Wade Avenue in Raleigh at 6:30 pm. Plan to attend this event to learn more about the Crop Walk and how to get your group involved. All types of congregations, school and community groups etc. that would like to join the walk on October 4th and raise funds to fight world and local hunger are welcome. Levels of giving for Urban Ministries core programs

$25 will buy 25 CAT bus tickets for homeless women at Helen Wright Center for Women to get to medical appointments and job interviews.

$50 will purchase 10 prescriptions for patients in the Open Door Clinic.

$100 will provide a week’s worth of food for 25 families in the Food Pantry.

$200 will keep the Job Link office open for 30 days to help clients in the Crisis Support Program find employment.

$500 will provide comprehensive health care, all medications, and ancillary services to one patient for one full year in the Open Door Clinic.

Stone Soup bowl

Our annual fundraising event, Stone Soup Supper, is coming up Tuesday, November 17th. This is a fun, family friendly supper at First Baptist Church in downtown Raleigh.

Soup, bread, and dessert are provided at no charge, and wonderful hand-thrown bowls by the Triangle Potters Guild are available for at least a $25 donation.

These make great holiday gifts, and of course all funds raised go directly to help our neighbors in need in Wake County.

ANNE BURKE INTERVIEWED ON WUNC

UM Executive Director Anne Burke participated in a discussion on the lives of poor women on public radio program The State of Things August 19th.

Next time you visit the Food Lion store on Western Blvd in Raleigh near NC State, you will be able to donate items to the UM Food Pantry! Clerks will be asking customers at the checkout if they would like to add a $1 item to their order. These donated items will go directly to hungry families in Wake County through our Pantry.
