Through their new initiative, The PULSE Volunteer Partnership, the pharmaceuticals company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) loans their skilled professionals to non profit organizations.

Transformational change can happen when employees use, share and pass on their professional skills and knowledge during their 3 or 6 month immersion experience. GSK empowers up to 100 employees each year to make a significant difference in impoverished communities, both at home or abroad. The employees address a clear need at a non-profit organization while developing their own leadership capabilities and healthcare understanding.

With this initiative GSK has allowed their employees to address a clear NGO need while developing their own leadership capabilities.

For 3 months 2 GSK professionals are working with us at Urban Ministries. They have made a tremendous effort helping us to improve the efficiency of our communication and technology among other things.

“Through our PULSE volunteering program our high performing employees will work and utilize their professional skills with non-profit organizations in communities around the world. They will come back with new ideas, energized and motivated, all of which will help us be a more effective organization in the future.”- Andrew Witty, CEO of GlaxoSmithKline.
