A Little Friendly Competition

Competition can bring out the best in people…and lucky for us 7th grader Ned Johnson decided to funnel some fan fervor into a good cause!
Ned came up with a plan to pit Carolina and State fans against each other for an Urban Ministries food drive! He created a March Madness contest at Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church for his Confirmation service project. Every Sunday for a month, each person or family had to donate a bag of much needed items for our Food Pantry in order to get a point for their favorite team.
Though the Tar-heels eventually triumphed over the Wolfpack in college basketball, everyone who took part in Ned’s game came out a winner. 109 bags were delivered to us on the bed of his grandfather’s truck- a total of 1,750 pounds of food for hungry families!
Thanks Ned for coming up with such a great idea to help others- and for putting it into action. You’re awesome!
